Backyard Composting Workshop Comes to Perris
Backyard Composting Workshop Comes to Perris The Riverside County Waste Management Department Backyard Composting Program comes to Perris on Saturday (August 8). Attend this free ''how-to'' workshop where you will learn, how to recycle your organic resources, fruit and vegetable waste along with the yard trimmings, into a dark, crumbly, sweet-smelling soil conditioner that will enrich the soil for your garden, lawn and house plants. Instead of putting organic waste in the garbage to be hauled to the landfill, learn to compost! The free ''how-to'' backyard composting workshop begins at 10 a.m. at the Perris Public Library, 163 E. San Jacinto Ave. Composting, nature's way of recycling, is a great way to divert waste from the landfill and turn it into a beneficial soil amendment. In composting, organic material is mixed together in a pile or bin, where literally millions of tiny microbes digest the material and turn it into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Volunteer master composters will explain how to create compost easily and efficiently from organic wastes. Low-cost compost bins will also be available to Riverside County residents at the workshop. If you require reasonable accommodation, please call our main office at least one week before the event. For more information, contact Janet Moreland at (951) 486-3200 or visit the Riverside County Waste Management Department's website at www.rivcowm.org.
