Ramona can proudly proclaim the status of America's Longest Running Outdoor Play and the State of California's Official State Outdoor Drama. The natural beauty of the amphitheatre and the historic tradition as 400+ cast members bring into being this classic love story filled with cultural and historic relevance. Scripted by British playwright Garnet Home, from the 1884 novel written by Helen Hunt Jackson, Ramona captures hearts and minds with her tale of family, love, strength, honor and the forces that threaten to tear it all apart. Ramona has been described as a feast for the senses. This popular show is set against the rugged natural backdrop of the southern Hemet hills, and is presented by a cast of more than 400 local actors, singers, dancers, and horsemen. The natural shape of the amphitheatre enhances the sound quality of the performance, and the beautiful landscaped surroundings create a perfect setting for this colorful and exciting fresh air performance. Hollywood starlets such as Raquel Welch and Anne Archer have graced the stage as the lead in Ramona. This year a new face will premier on the Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre stage in the title role of Ramona. Debradawn Shockey has been cast in the starring role and Vincent Whipple will return for his 10th season as Alessandro. Armed with degrees in Theatre Arts and Fashion Design, Debradawn's' costume design and acting credits are numerous. A five time Inland Theatre League Awards winner for excellence in acting and costume design, Ms. Shockey is also one of the founding members of the Murrieta Repertory Theatre.
