WILDOMAR, CA – Construction has officially begun on a new Walmart Supercenter at the northeast corner of Monte Vista Drive and Bundy Canyon Road, marking one of the most significant economic development milestones in the City of Wildomar’s history. The long-anticipated project represents the culmination of years of planning and coordination and signals a major step forward for the community.

Although originally approved in 2015, the project had stalled and was at risk of losing its entitlements. Over the past year, the City worked proactively with the property owner and developer to streamline processes, remove obstacles, coordinate across departments, and align timelines to support the start of construction. As a result, this long-envisioned project is now becoming a tangible reality in Wildomar.

The new Walmart Supercenter is expected to expand residents’ access to groceries, pharmaceuticals, household goods and everyday essentials, offer a variety of convenient services, and contribute to the community’s continued economic growth. The project will also create hundreds of construction and permanent jobs and establish a substantial long-term revenue stream to support public safety, road maintenance, and other essential City services.

“This project has truly been a long time coming,” said Mayor Carlos Marquez. “For more than a decade, the City remained committed to seeing this site developed in a way that benefits our community. Breaking ground on this Walmart Supercenter reflects persistence, thoughtful planning, and our continued focus on strengthening Wildomar’s local economy.”

Mayor Marquez emphasized the broader impact of the development. “This isn’t just about a new store. It is about creating jobs, expanding retail options for our residents, and building a stronger, more sustainable tax base that allows us to invest in the services our community relies upon.”

City Manager Chris Mann highlighted the leadership and coordination required to move the project forward. “Reviving a project of this scale required focused leadership and disciplined execution across multiple departments and partners,” Mann said. “With entitlements nearing expiration, the City worked diligently to align timelines, provide regulatory clarity, and complete the stops necessary for construction to begin. This is the result of strategic, solution-oriented governance and a shared commitment to moving Wildomar forward.”

Mann also noted the project’s strategic location.

“The Monte Vista Drive and Bundy Canyon Road corridor is a key gateway into Wildomar,” he said. “This investment complements ongoing transportation improvements in the area and positions the City for continued commercial growth.”

“We’re proud to invest in Wildomar as this project moves forward,” said Frankie Ahumada, Regional Vice President at Walmart. “We look forward to serving local families with affordable groceries and everyday essentials, creating local job opportunities, and being part of the community’s continued growth.”

Construction of the Walmart Supercenter represents one of the largest commercial investments in Wildomar’s history and reflects the City Council’s longstanding commitment to attracting high-quality businesses, improving local shopping options, and strengthening the community’s fiscal foundation.

With construction now underway, the project represents a major milestone for Wildomar and a significant investment in the City’s long-term economic future.
